We were off to the M. I. T. Media Lab recently where we took the glass elevators up to one of our favorite annual events: COOKING FOR A CAUSE to benefit East End House.

When you have a food blog, you occasionally get free passes to food events. Normally, I ignore these invitations, but recently one caught my eye. East End House is a non-profit organization that helps Cambridge families in need, and they were holding a Cooking for a Cause event at MIT Media Lab.

More than 600 guests participated at the East End House’s Cooking for a Cause, making it their biggest event to date bringing in over $400,000.

The ninth annual Cooking for a Cause was bigger and better this year — securing funds for the great work the East End House in Cambridge does and providing guests an opportunity to sample treats from the best chefs and mixologists in the area.

I mentioned last week that I was going to Cooking for a Cause again this year.

Cooking for a Cause is an annual event held to benefit the East End House, which, in the words of the organization, “provides support services to a diverse population, from infants to seniors, to strengthen family and community.”

The East End House gala "Cooking For A Cause" is one of our top food events of the year, all raising lots of money for this great organization that has been helping families in Cambridge for 137 years! CEO Michael Delia pointed out that TBF was the very first food blogger to attend and support this event and proud we are to do so. From affordable child daycare to senior programs, East End House is a lifeline for many people. This year's celebration/fundraiser featured tons of amazing food and drinks.

Cooking for a Cause Fundraiser, March 30 2012

Last night was the Cooking for a Cause fundraiser for East End House of Cambridge. Highlights, in no particular order:

1. Surprisingly good pulled pork sandwich from Tremont 347. ECG Cuban pulled pork at the next table wasn't nearly as good (and we love ECG).
2. Island Creek Oyster Bar had some kind of lobster roe / orzo / puree of something that my wife raved about.

One large ballroom right on the ocean.

Over a dozen well-respected local chefs personally handing you dishes they have designed and cooked for the event.

Mixologists from Boston's best bars stirring up cool drinks for you to sample.

Wines from New England wineries and incredible desserts from the area's well-known bakeries and chocolatiers.

Oh, how could I forget? Absolutely amazing coffee from what has become one of my new favorite coffee shops.
