Dear East End House Friends,
Over the past few days, East End House has been working with a core group of families impacted by the devastating fire last weekend in East Cambridge. In addition to losing their homes, many of these families lost all of their belongings-vehicles, driver's licenses, credit cards, medications, clothing, and other essential items. We have been working to connect these families to appropriate support services and City of Cambridge relief efforts, as well as to provide them with food, toiletry items, infant supplies, winter coats, mittens, shoes, clothing, transportation, gift cards, and other basic necessities.
Recovering from the devastating effects of the fire and the resulting dislocation-both physical and emotional-will be a long journey for these families. East End House is committed to supporting them on this journey as they regain stability and find housing.
Many people have reached out to us asking how they can assist in supporting families and individuals impacted by the fire. Here are some ways you can help:
Donate to the Mayor's Fire Relief Fund at https://www.gofundme.com/cambridge-mayors-fire-relief-fund.
CambridgeSide Galleria has launched a gift card drive to help the families purchase needed items. Donate gift cards of any amount at the CambridgeSide Galleria Welcome Center on Level 2 now through December 19, 2016. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 617-621-8668.
East End House has set up an emergency fund to support the immediate needs of our core families affected by the fire. Your monetary or gift card donation in any amount will enable these families to purchase essential items lost in the fire. Suggested gift card donations include: Target, Shaw's, Stop and Shop, Market Basket, Star Market, American Express, Visa, or Uber. To make a monetary donation please visit http://www.eastendhouse.org/get-involved and select "Fire Emergency Fund" in the drop down menu, or mail a check or gift card to East End House, 105 Spring Street, Cambridge, MA 02141. For more information, call 617-876-4444.
Write an encouraging note that we will pass along to these families to let them know that their community is supporting and thinking about them. Please send to East End House, Attn: Kimberly Marcellino, 105 Spring Street, Cambridge, MA 02141 or email@example.com.
As separate initiative, there is still time to support East End House's December Adopt- a-Family Program. This program allows you to fill specific wishes for any family in need of gifts and basic necessities. Select a family size and you will receive a family's wish list so you can do the shopping for each family member. Wrapped and labeled gifts can be dropped off at East End House between December 12th and 19th. For more information on the Adopt-a-Family Program please contact Camille Platt, Child Care Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org, call 617-876-4444, or view the flyer.
Thank you to the many people that have reached out to us and others inquiring about ways to help. We are sincerely touched and deeply grateful by this outpouring of concern and generosity.
