East End House's Child Care Program serves 54 children each day ranging in age from 15 months to 5 years old. The program is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). All the children in our toddler and pre-school classrooms have a daily routine that involves indoor and outdoor play time (when the weather cooperates), reading and literacy activities, art projects, breakfast, lunch and snack, nap time, and other special projects and field trips.

Our Staff
All of our teachers are EEC Certified as well as CPR and First Aid certified. Many Child Care staff have been at East End House for over 5 years and some as long as 17 years. They have been able to grow professionally, get to know families, and provide the best possible care for all the kids in the program.
Our Philosophy
Our goal is to provide a nurturing caring environment where children can develop socially and intellectually giving them all the tools they need to be successful when they start kindergarten. We pay special attention to the different learning styles and personalities of each child and make every effort to give them the skills and support they need to reach their full potential.
Our Curriculum
Language and Literacy
Teachers regularly engage children in formal and informal activities that promote language development, letter recognition and beginning writing opportunities. Reading time is part of the routine every day. Teachers use "big books," larger versions of familiar books, to demonstrate work pronunciation and sentence structure.
"Bringing Books to Life" is a project that is now a part of our pre-school classrooms. Kids pick out their favorite books and act out the story helping them to engage with plot and characters. The Child Care Program also works closely with
Literacy/Curriculum Connections, run by the Cambridge Community Partnership for Children, to encourage reading at home. Kids can check out books from their classroom to bring home and read with their families as well as take home a Writer's Briefcase filled with all the tools a writer uses. They use the paper, pencils, and other items to write books and draw pictures they share with the class the next day.
Arts and Crafts, Dramatic Play, Sports and More
There are many varied activities that toddler & preschool kids take on every day. Art projects, dress-up play, sports in our gym, singing, dancing, and much more may be part of the day. The curriculum is structured to expose kids to many different ways to play and learn.
Field Trips and Outdoor Play
Toddlers and preschoolers explore their community on fun and educational field trips. Past trips have included the Museum of Science, working farms, and apple orchards. We also enjoy the fresh air when the weather permits. Classes play in East End House's backyard, as well as local parks. We also have a backyard garden where children learn where the food they eat comes from by planting and harvesting vegetables each season.
Family Playgroups
Playgroups are a way for families with kids ages 0-5 to get together, play some games, and share ideas and stories. They are held every Tuesday from 10am - 11:30am at East End House. You do not need to sign-up, just drop by and enjoy the activities and a light snack. Groups are open to all with children under 5 years old. When the weather is nice, we play in the backyard and on cold and rainy days we are in the community room.
