East End House in the News Regarding the Disruption of SNAP Benefits: Boston WCVB Channel 5 News, Friday, October 31, 2025.
Help Families Facing the SNAP Crisis, Rising Food Insecurity and Other Rising Needs
As featured on WCVB Channel 5 News last Friday, East End House is seeing a sharp rise in food insecurity as federal SNAP benefits face severe disruptions.
More than 1 in 6 Massachusetts residents – over 1 million people, including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities – depend on SNAP to put food on the table. Many are now at risk of missing or delayed benefits, leaving families with an average $725 gap in November alone.
This crisis reflects a broader system failure: rising grocery and housing costs, Medicaid cuts, and inflation continue to make it harder for working families to make ends meet. East End House is responding by providing healthy groceries at least once a week, allowing families to stretch their limited budgets to cover other essential items.
We’re working alongside the Cambridge Food Pantry Network, City of Cambridge, City of Somerville, Greater Boston Food Bank, United Way of Massachusetts Bay, and others to meet both urgent and long-term needs. But demand has never been higher. Last year, over 5,000 individuals relied on East End House’s Community Food Program – and new families seek help every week.
