East End House delivers comprehensive, high-impact programming that supports individuals and families across their lifespan. Its early education program serves children ages 15 months to 5 years in a full day, year-round setting focused on school readiness, healthy development and social-emotional growth. The nationally recognized school age and middle school programs provides safe, structured and enriching environments that build academic confidence, foster identity development and strengthen critical life skills.
The middle school program is particularly distinctive in Cambridge, offering one of the only free, high-frequency, arts-integrated models for under-resourced youth. It emphasizes creative expression, leadership development and social-emotional learning — helping young people navigate a pivotal stage in their lives with confidence and purpose.
Beyond youth programming, East End House plays a critical role in addressing basic needs and family stability. Its community food program provides consistent access to nutritious groceries, responding to rising food insecurity affecting approximately one in three Cambridge residents. The organization also distributes infant necessities, offers emergency assistance and provides therapeutic case management to help families navigate complex systems and stabilize during times of crisis.
Older adults are an essential part of the East End House community. Through senior programming, participants access meals, wellness activities and opportunities for social connection and volunteer engagement — reducing isolation and promoting healthy aging.

About the Agency
Founded in 1875, East End House is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating community centers, predating Chicago’s Hull House, and has been a cornerstone for under-resourced children and families in Cambridge and surrounding communities for 150 years.
Throughout its history, the organization has continually evolved to meet emerging community needs: from pioneering well-baby clinics in the early 1900s, to leading youth workforce initiatives during the Great Depression, launching Cambridge’s first Head Start program and introducing multilingual energy audits in the 1970s.
Today, East End House serves more than 5,500 individuals annually, with 93 percent of participants from low to moderate-income households and 96 percent residing in Cambridge. The community served is richly diverse, with approximately 88 percent of participants identifying as people of color. Grounded in a holistic, multigenerational approach, East End House delivers evidence-informed programs that support school readiness, academic success and long-term economic mobility.
As a dynamic community hub, East End House provides integrated, wraparound services, including early education, out-of-school time programming, food access, case management and senior services, ensuring that individuals and families of all ages have the support they need to thrive.
Executive Leadership
President and CEO Michael Delia has served East End House since the late 90s, guiding the organization through decades of growth, innovation and deepened community impact. Under his leadership, East End House has expanded its programs and reach severalfold while maintaining a strong focus on quality, accountability and measurable outcomes. During his tenure, the organization has received numerous honors, including the MA Council of Nonprofits’ Award for Excellence in Management and the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Family Strengthening Award. East End House also achieved a national milestone as the first organization in the country to receive dual accreditation from the Council on Accreditation— both as an agency and for its out-of-school time programs.
Delia holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice and a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo. He has completed executive training at Harvard Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management and Roosevelt University.
A recognized leader in the nonprofit sector, Delia is a founder of the Cambridge Nonprofit Coalition and has served in multiple leadership roles locally and nationally, advancing collaboration and systems-level impact.
